It's an election year and here's what I'm looking for in a political candidate that I can throw my support toward. Dare I say this might just be the perfect candidate?
Here are my five characteristics of the perfect political candidate.
Integrity -- My perfect candidate has integrity. He or she does what is right, not just what is popular or politically correct and he or she stands by his or her convictions.
Honesty -- Yep, this is a tough one for politicians but my ideal vote-getter is honest. If they screw up, they admit it - they don't wait until they are caught to shamefacedly say "Oops, yes I did this and I'm sorry I was caught."
They are honest enough that if they don't know the answer to the question they are asked, they say so instead of spouting a bunch of gibberish and nonsense to confuse the issue and appear like they actually do know the answer. They tell it like it is and point out the good, the bad and the ugly of an issue, even if when the truth isn't popular -- which is usually the case in the political realm. Most importantly, the ideal candidate doesn't try to spin everything to make them or their party look good.
Kindness -- My perfect candidate is kind. He or she values people above policies and politics and understands that the human side of issues is what is most important.
Realism -- My candidate is real - not just a cleverly-designed political machine that is primped and primed and molded by their political party. He or she is willing to get dirty with the unwashed masses and not appear to have a superior attitude.
|Will the perfect candidate ever occupy this office?|
Is there such a candidate out there who has these ideals? Sadly, I haven't seen any yet. I'm still waiting. Anybody? Bueller?
